You will pass through the idyllic village of Prinzbach, with its silver mining past and its St. Mauritius church, whose roots date back to the 13th century. The route is very varied; you will traverse forests, meadows, and Hohengeroldseck Castle, where the Kandelhöhenweg also passes. Packed lunch during the hike. At the end of the hike, depart by coach for a visit and beer tasting at a typical Black Forest brewery. Return to the hotel at the end of the day. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3 - SIGHTSEEING DAY IN FREIBURG IM BREISGAU
Breakfast at the hotel. For the morning, a guided tour and free visit of the Black Forest Museum. This captivating open-air museum in Vogtsbauernhof, located in the Gutach valley, showcases the culture, history, traditions, and customs of the Black Forest inhabitants over the past four centuries. You will discover rural life of yesteryear in the Black Forest, through impressively reconstructed imposing farms, mills, dwellings, sawmills, and stables. On festive days, women wear the traditional costume of the Gutach valley with the Bollenhut, a pompom hat, or the Schäppel, a type of crown made of multicolored beads. Following this visit, lunch at a restaurant. In the afternoon, a guided tour of Freiburg im Breisgau followed by free time in the city. Return to the hotel at the end of the day. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 - HIKE IN KAISERSTUHL – DISCOVERING VITICULTURE
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for a hike to discover these unique landscapes and Black Forest viticulture. Landscapes modified by humans for millennia. Day 5 - HIKE IN SANKT PETER – THE BAROQUE ERA
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for a hike around St. Peter. “Nature is a temple where living pillars – Sometimes let out confused words; – Man passes through forests of symbols – Which observe him with familiar glances.” Charles Baudelaire. In the magnificent Glottertal valley, starting from St. Peter, this hike will demonstrate that Baudelaire, in this excerpt from Les Fleurs du mal, was not inventing but merely describing reality. Packed lunch during the hike. Following the hike, you will visit the village of St. Peter and its magnificent library. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6 - HIKE IN SCHILTACH – THE MILLS
Breakfast at the hotel and depart for the circuit around the village of Ottenhöffen, where you can admire preserved or restored mills, a forge using water power, and numerous self-service Schnapps fountains (Schnappsbrunnen, brandy, a typical Black Forest drink). This is a typical Black Forest concept: you are requested to pay for your consumption by placing your coin in the provided box. Various non-alcoholic beverages are also available. The circuit traverses landscapes of mid-mountain meadows and forests. At the end of the hike, depart for a visit to the picturesque village of Schiltach. Return to the hotel.
